Womens’ Circle Group - The Empty Pew would like to invite you to join us for St. Luke’s first Women’s Circle Group. We will be using be Beijing Circles resource book. For more information about the resource book go to:
http://www.episcopalchurch.org/109463_110783_ENG_HTM.htm. The resource book connects scripture, prayer, and personal stories with the twelve issues of the Beijing Platform for Action (created at a meeting held in 1995 in Beijing to discuss the status of women globally). Those issues reflect on the experiences of women and families in our world. We will meet on the following Sundays at 12:30 pm (brown bag lunch) in the Commons: June 5 and 19, July 10 and 24. To sign up for the Women’s Circle Group or for more information, please contact Amy McLean at amyhmclean@gmail.com or 394-2144.
Parish Directory Updates should be turned in by today. You may drop these updates in the offering plate on Sunday or scan and e-mail them to the church.
We are anticipating that we may have some scholarship monies available this year for our parishioners who are college students. Please contact the parish office if you would like an application. We should know for certain what will be available in early June.
St. Luke’s week to work at the RIFA Community Kitchen will be June 6 – June 11. Please show up at the designated time if you are signed up to serve. If you don’t remember which day or time you signed up for, you can call the parish office. We also may have some additional time slots to fill if you can serve and have not already signed up.
The ECW will have our annual Spring Meeting on Monday, June 6th at 6 pm at the home of G. G. Bray. All Women of St. Luke’s are invited to attend. Lyda Kay Ferree will reveal her traditional Summer Reading List and we will discuss plans for the fall Calendar Party fundraiser. Please bring any type of salad, dessert and/or wine. Newcomer are especially welcome! We will be inducting our new officers for the 2011-12 season. Congratulations to Janie Carp, our new president! We still need someone to serve as Treasurer for this coming year, so be prepared to make nominations or volunteer for that position.
We will have a Parish Work Day on Saturday, June 25th from 8 am – 2 pm to get several projects completed, such as painting, minor repairs, flower bed weeding, some insulation installation, etc. We will have a place to sign up to help. It would be helpful to know how many will be there. This is part of stewardship, giving back to the church from your bountiful harvest. We are also planning a one day Vacation Bible School for the children of the church that day from 10 am – 2 pm. We will have lunch provided for all.

Christian Education for Adults…
The Upper Room Class is now reading Marcus Borg’s book “The Heart of Christianity,” and discussing Borg’s concept of the emerging paradigm of Christianity. How are we to approach the Bible in an age dominated by science? What is the role of the sacraments in our daily lives? Borg tackles these questions and others in his writings, without bogging down in technical theology.
The Tuesday evening Bible study led by Gene Davenport meets each week at 7:00 p.m. This class is studying the Letter to the Galatians. Everyone is welcome.
The Wednesday Morning Bible Study will resume in the fall. Please watch for announcements of the date.
Calling All Cooks - Saint Luke’s has a reputation for having some of the best cooks in Jackson as members. It is time to re-issue a cookbook showcasing our talented parishioners. This is a fairly long process to publication, so getting the recipes together quickly is vital. We (the ECW) hope to have the cookbook available for sale by October 2011 for the Calendar parties. A good cookbook needs at least 400-500 recipes to be viable. Every one of you has at least 10 favorite recipes! If you have more, feel free to submit as many as you can. Please double check amounts and directions before printing or typing. Suggestions for a name are also welcome. Send your recipes by snail mail to Donna Boren, 12 Deepwood, Jackson, TN 38305.
