What’s happening…
Istlukes@estlukes.orgwhites575@aeneas.net
New Foyer Groups Begin in August. Foyer groups are an easy and enjoyable way for parishioners to get to
know one another – especially newcomers and folks who go to different services
– in an informal social setting. Once each month, over a four month period,
group members meet at one another’s home or at a restaurant for a simple
dinner, to get to know each other. Each time
groups are reassigned to meet new people. If you are interested, please sign up
on the bulletin board near the parish office or contact Bob or Fran Beare at
731-444-1000.
ECW Sunday Brunch –
The ECW will have Sunday Brunch August 26th after the 10:30 a.m.
service. This will be a social gathering for the ladies of the parish offering
a time for good food and Christian fellowship. Also, we will provide more
information on the fall luncheon and dinner (also known as the Calendar party
by many) and the retreat at St. Columba planned in February 2013. Please mark
your calendars and make your plans to attend!
Episcopal Churchmen of Tennessee Annual
Gathering at DuBose Conference Center, Monteagle, TN., August, 17 – 19 - This year’s conference – “RUN WITH
ENDURANCE THE RACE SET BEFORE YOU” – is about persevering through adversity
from a sports perspective. Our speakers, all of whom have a sports background
or are involved in the world of sports, will energize us and help us run the
race of life with endurance. This year's speakers are: Former University of Tennessee
Volunteers Head Football Coach Phillip Fullmer, The Rev. Colenzo Hubbard,
priest of the Diocese of West Tennessee and member of the 1973 National
Championship (and three SEC championships) Alabama Crimson Tide football team
under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, and Rudy Kalis, sports director at WSMV-TV in
Nashville and sports reporter and anchor at WSMV since August 1974. Please
visit their website at www.EpiscopalChurchmen.net
for conference details and for registration. Ron Canter is the parish keyman
and he will be happy to provide information about the conference if you have
never attended before.
Christian
Education for Adults…
The
Tuesday evening Bible study led
by Gene Davenport meets each week at 7:00 p.m. We are now studying the Book of
Acts and all of you are invited. The class is in discussion formant and is not
a lecture.
The Wednesday Morning Bible Study led by Dr. Brady Whitehead is on break for the
summer. Classes will resume after Rally Day.
The Upper Room Class will go
on summer hiatus after May 20. There will be no adult Sunday school starting
the weekend of Memorial Day. We will resume on Rally Day in the fall, when we
will begin a study of comparative religions. Our study will be centered on
Huston Smith’s book, The Worlds Religions.
