Saint Luke's Parish Notes - April 15, 2012

Parish NotesApril 15, 2012

What’s happening…

Our Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) will meet today at the church at 5:00 p.m. This group is for young people in the 7th-12th grades.

Saints Alive! will be May 19 at the home of Phil and Peggy Bogard, 79 Woodmanor Place, Jackson, at 6:30 p.m. What in the world is Saints Alive? At Saint Luke’s, Saints Alive is a large gathering of adults from the parish for food, fellowship, and fun with no other agenda. If you are new to Saint Luke’s, this is a great way to meet others in the parish. Please bring your favorite covered dish and join us for an evening of Christian fellowship.

Baptism Dates Ahead. The Book of Common Prayer recommends five dates for Baptisms… The Great Vigil of Easter, Pentecost Sunday, All Saints’ Day, The Baptism of Jesus, and when the Bishop visits. Other dates may be scheduled, but these dates bear special significance to Baptism on our calendar. The next services that will include Holy Baptisms will be May 6, 2012 and the Day of Pentecost, May 27, 2012. Please contact the Parish Office if you have someone to be Baptized.

Christian Education for Adults…

The Tuesday evening Bible study led by Gene Davenport meets each week at 7:00 p.m. We are now studying 1 Corinthians, Chapter 8 and all of you are invited. The class is in discussion formant and is not a lecture.

The Upper Room Class continues. The Upper Room Class is viewing a new series of video lectures on archeological discoveries in the area of Israel and Palestine. We’ll be comparing biblical stories with what the archeological and historic records tell us about the same events. The periods of both the Old and New Testaments will be covered.

The Wednesday Morning Bible Study led by Dr. Brady Whitehead meets on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Saint Luke’s library. Everyone is welcome.

Also…

We are still accepting pledge cards. You may place your cards in the alms basin, mail it to the parish office, or turn in online at www.estlukes.org/pledge.htm.

Cookbooks are for sale in the Commons. The price is $20 per cookbook.
