Special Events…

EYC will meet today at the church at 5:00 p.m.

The ECW “Surprise Auction” and Luncheon will be Sunday, February 19^th in the Commons immediately following the 10:30 a.m. service. All women of Saint Luke’s are invited to attend. There will be a short business meeting followed by a delicious meal which is traditionally prepared by the men of the church. Pat Craig will serve as auctioneer. Please bring anything you think a fellow ECW member would enjoy for your auction item! Wrap the item and attach a hint about its contents and approximate value to help Pat begin the bidding. Please sign up outside the parish office or by e-mailing the parish office at stlukes@aeneas.net by February 12^th so we can plan for the food. A collection will be taken to cover the cost of the food.

The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will be February 21^st at 6:00 p.m. The youth of Saint. Luke’s will prepare the meal. Please sign up on the in the narthex, on the bulletin board or contact the parish office at 731-424-0556 to sign up! All youth helping to prepare, serve and clean-up for this will need to be at the church by 4:00 p.m. or as soon as you can after school.

Ash Wednesday services will be Wednesday, February 22^nd at 12:00 noon and at 7:00 p.m.

The Lenten Program and Dinner will begin Wednesday, February  29^th and will go through March 28^th. Our Lenten program will center on The Book of Common Prayer. This program will be practical enough for you to expand your knowledge of how to use the Prayer Book devotionally at home, and educational enough to expand your understanding of its contents. Each program will provide an opportunity for us to worship using a rite from the Prayer Book. Dinner will begin promptly at 5:45 p.m., and the program will begin in the Parish Hall promptly at 6:15. Nursery will be available each Wednesday during these programs. The Program each week will be concluded by 7:00 p.m. sharp. Please be sure to sign up in the narthex, on the bulletin board or e-mail the parish office at stlukes@aeneas.net so we know how much food to prepare!

We are still accepting pledge cards. You may place your cards in the alms basin, mail it to the parish office, or turn in online online at www.estlukes.org/pledge.htm.

 

Cookbooks are for sale in the Commons. The price is $20 per cookbook.

 

The 2012 Offering Envelopes are now ready! Please pick yours up from the Commons and begin using immediately. Please be sure to recycle any remaining 2011 envelopes because your number changes each year! If you do not find offering envelopes with your name on them, please call the parish office at 731-424-0556.

 

Safeguarding God’s Children is a required training course for all church staff and volunteers. This includes Sunday School teachers, Children’s Church workers, Youth workers, Vestry members and anyone else who works with children in any capacity and should be repeated every 5 years. The next course to be held at Saint Luke’s will be Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 6 p.m. Please sign up on the bulletin board by the office or in the narthex so we can plan for the number of people attending and so we can send out reminders to all who sign up.

The Episcopal Church Women’s Annual Rummage Sale, is set for Saturday, March 17^th from 7 AM to 12:00 Noon. Roxane Rhoads and Melissa Moore will once again head the project. They need help with setup the Thursday and Friday before from 10 AM – 2:00 PM, with the sale Saturday from 7 -11 AM, and cleanup from 10 AM through noon. Please call Roxane at 660-1530 to offer assistance. We also need items to sale - clothes, household goods, appliances and furniture. Any electrical items (please, no computers monitors) must be clearly marked with their working condition. Please bring your “gently used” items by noon Friday, March 9^th. 

Christian Education for Adults…

The Tuesday evening Bible study led by Gene Davenport meets each week at 7:00 p.m. We are now studying 1 Corinthians, Chapter 8 and all of you are invited. The class is in discussion formant and is not a lecture.

The Upper Room Class continues.  Starting November 6, The Upper Room Class began a new series of video lectures on archeological discoveries in the area of Israel and Palestine. We’ll be comparing biblical stories with what the archeological and historic records tell us about the same events. The periods of both the Old and New Testaments will be covered.

The Wednesday Morning Bible Study led by Dr. Brady Whitehead meets on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Saint Luke’s library. Everyone is welcome.

The 2012 Altar Flower, Altar Supply and Altar Candle sign up sheets are posted. Please sign up on the bulletin board by the elevator for your Sunday to provide altar flowers. These are filled on a first come, first serve basis so if you have a date that has special meaning to you, sign up on the bulletin board by the elevator. We have many dates open still.  You may also contact the parish office at 731-424-0556 and we will be happy to check the calendar and sign you up.

Recycle your paper and Saint Luke’s benefits!
All you need to do is take newspapers, magazines, junkmail, cardboard, or any other grade of paper to Southeast Recycled Fiber. Please tell the attendant at the window that you want your paper to go onto Saint Luke’s account, and Saint Luke’s will receive the benefit. Please see the bulletin board by the parish office or estlukes.org/recycle.htm for a map to Southeast’s facility. You can also bring paper on the last Sunday of the month and we will take it for you so bring your paper on Feb. 25^th!
