Special Events…

Usher Training is today at 9:00 a.m. in the nave. If you are currently an usher or if you would like to serve in this capacity at either service, please join us for training.

This year’s School Supply Drive has begun. We will be collecting supplies and/or donations for supplies and also donations for uniforms. There are always several children throughout our community who cannot attend school because the parents cannot afford to purchase the required clothing and supplies. Suggested school supplies include glue sticks, construction paper, small scissors, notebook paper, large-bore pencils, primary tables, crayons, colored pencils and markers, folders, No. 2 pencils, tissues, baby wipes and hand sanitizer. Standard-size backpacks are also needed. You may also donate any gently used khaki, black or navy shorts and pants of all sizes are also greatly appreciated. You may also make a cash donation and we will shop for you for supplies or purchase uniform vouchers. The uniforms will be provided through school referral. Please be sure to write uniforms or school supplies on the memo line of your check.

Our EYC (for kids who will be in grades 6 – 12) will go to the Fall Kick-off on Sunday, August 28. We will leave from the church as 12:45. This event is sponsored by the Diocesan Youth Council. Come join us for fun and fellowship.

Saint Luke’s will be hosting a Diocesan-wide Eucharistic Minister training on September 10 beginning at 8:00 am. We would like to encourage our Eucharistic Ministers to attend. We will also need 2 volunteers to help greet people.

The Magnetic Church at Saint Luke’s! Gifted speaker Andrew Weeks will present his nationally-acclaimed “Magnetic Church” workshop on September 30-October 1. A lifelong Episcopalian, he also is the author of WELCOME!TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR NEW MEMBER MINISTRY, published by The Alban Institute. The sessions will focus on spiritual issues and opportunities for new creative ministries, Presenting Your Church to the Public, Managing New Member Ministry, The Ministry of Greeting, and Communications. From these sessions, participants will get scores of practical ideas that can be implemented immediately. Participation in the Magnetic Church workshop is open not only to Saint Luke’s parishioners but to all churches in the Diocese of West Tennesseemand other denominations in the community. Registration information is available in the parish office and in the narthex. For more information, you may contact Larry Greer at 668-5058 or larrygreer@aeneas.net. The Annual ECW Fall Luncheon & Dinner, formerly known as the Calendar Party, will be October 19 & 20. Please be sure to mark your calendars and get your reservations early by calling G. G. Bray at 731-660-5651. This year’s theme is “The Party of Parties”. For those of you new to the church, you will find this a wonderful time for mingling with both St. Luke’s parishioners and with their friends. The food is always wonderful and the decorations are spectacular!

Calling All Cooks - Saint Luke’s has a reputation for having some of the best cooks in Jackson as members. It is time to re-issue a cookbook showcasing our talented parishioners. This is a fairly long process to publication, so getting the recipes together quickly is vital. We (the ECW) hope to have the cookbook available for sale by October 2011 for the Calendar parties. A good cookbook needs at least 400-500 recipes to be viable. Every one of you has at least 10 favorite recipes! If you have more, feel free to submit as many as you can. Please double check amounts and directions before printing or typing. Suggestions for a name are also welcome. Send your recipes by snail mail to Donna Boren, 12 Deepwood, Jackson, TN 38305.

The 2011 Altar Flower, Altar Supply and Altar Candle sign up sheets are posted. Please sign up on the bulletin board by the elevator for your Sunday to provide altar flowers. These are filled on a first come, first serve basis so if you have a date that has special meaning to you, sign up early!! Please either sign up on the bulletin board or contact the parish office at 731-424-0556.
