Special Events…
Rally Day! Rally Day, the annual Parish Picnic and the Fall Kickoff for Christian Education will be on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Immediately following the 10:30 service we will gather at Conger Park (formerly known as Highland Park) for food, fellowship and fun. There will be lots of fun activities for children too! Dress casually for church and bring your favorite side dish. We will provide the chicken and sodas.
Saint Luke’s will be hosting a Diocesan-wide Eucharistic Minister training on September 10 beginning at 8:00 am. We would like to encourage our Eucharistic Ministers to attend. We will also need 2 volunteers to help greet people.
Saints Alive! will be September 25 at the home of Gus Middleton, 6:30 p.m. This is a social gathering for the adults of the parish. Please bring your favorite covered dish and join us for an evening of Christian fellowship.
The Magnetic Church at Saint Luke’s! Gifted speaker Andrew Weeks will present his nationally-acclaimed “Magnetic Church” workshop on September 30-October 1. A lifelong Episcopalian, he also is the author of WELCOME! TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR NEW MEMBER MINISTRY, published by The Alban Institute. The sessions will focus on spiritual issues and opportunities for new creative ministries, Presenting Your Church to the Public, Managing New Member Ministry, The Ministry of Greeting, and Communications. From these sessions, participants will get scores of practical ideas that can be implemented immediately. Participation in the Magnetic Church workshop is open not only to Saint Luke’s parishioners but to all churches in the Diocese of West Tennessee and other denominations in the community. Registration information is available in the parish office and in the narthex. For more information, you may contact Larry Greer at 668-5058 or larrygreer@aeneas.net. Discover more at www.magnetic-church.com
The Annual ECW Fall Luncheon & Dinner, formerly known as the Calendar Party, will be October 19 & 20. Please be sure to mark your calendars and get your reservations early by calling G. G. Bray at 731-660-5651. This year’s theme is “The Party of Parties”. For those of you new to the church, you will find this a wonderful time for mingling with both St. Luke’s parishioners and with their friends. The food is always wonderful and the decorations are spectacular!
Christian Education for Adults…
The Upper Room Class will resume on Rally Day, September 11. We will start out the new year of classes by reading and discussing Rob Bell's new book "Love Wins." Subtitled "A book about heaven, hell, and the fate of every person who ever lived," "Love Wins" caused considerable controversy when it came out earlier this year. Some considered Bell, the founding pastor of the Mars Hill Bible Church, to be espousing a heretical unitarian message in his work. We'll make up our own minds as we explore his work together. Copies of the book are available online at Amazon, or here in Jackson at Books-A-Million. Join us upstairs between services at 9:15 every Sunday.
The Tuesday evening Bible study led by Gene Davenport meets each week at 7:00 p.m. We are now studying 2 Thessalonians and all of you are invited. The class is in discussion formant and is not a lecture.
The Wednesday Morning Bible Study will be delayed. Dr. Brady Whitehead is having hip replacement surgery on September 1st. Please watch for announcements of when the class will resume.
